OSTEOPATHY FAQS

WHAT DO I WEAR?

For males it is best to wear a t-shirt and non-jean shorts, and for females a vest top and non-jean shorts.

You may be asked to remove certain items of clothing to allow us to assess and treat you more efficiently. This is usually the t-shirt, but only if you are comfortable with this. If so, for females a fastening bra is best worn underneath, sports bras can be worn but are less preferable. Towels will be utilised for modesty to make you feel comfortable.

DOES THE INITIAL OSTEOPATHIC APPOINTMENT INVOLVE TREATMENT?

Yes it does. The first appointment is predominantly about assessing and forming a diagnosis to base treatment on, but treatment will be included. The amount of treatment will however, depend on the amount of assessment that needs to be done.

In some circumstances treatment is not suitable during this first appointment. This is usually due to medical contraindications or the identification of something non-musculoskeletal, which may need further investigation to rule out any potential red flags before continuing with osteopathic treatment.
